Baking cakes.

Do we try to help a lot of people by focusing on a single thing? Or do we serve only a few people by giving them a lot of things?

One of the first things we need to ask ourselves when we are creating something (a business, a blog, a cake, whatever) is “who is this for?”.

If we’re unsure of who it is that we want to serve, it makes it very difficult to dial in on how we can help. Things get vague, or we try to do too much.

We end up making some hybrid cake that has choc chips for the chocolate lovers, dried fruit for the fruity people, sponge for those who like sponge cake and sprinkles on top for the kids.

But if we go the other way and scale it back, you end up baking a boring cake with no icing, no choc chips, no real flavour. Vanilla.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d still eat both options.

But if you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.
